PARISH PRIESTS OF THE CATHEDRAL SEE, OLD GOA (1510-2024)
Goa was liberated from the Muslim rule by D. Afonso de Albuquerque on 25th November, 1510- the feast day of St. Catherine of Alexandria. Historical sources indicate that he paid immediate attention not only to the temporal aspects but also the spiritual aspects of the newly conquered city of Goa (todays Old Goa). The initial spiritual centre of the Portuguese possessions in India was at Cochin which soon shifted to Goa. There were many ‘Vicars’ who administered the affairs of the city of Goa before it became a bishopric.
